Broward Schools To Offer Summer Lunch Program

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― The Broward school district is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to make sure kids from low income families can still get a healthy breakfast and lunch over the summer.

During the normal school year, the district offers free or reduced price meals to eligible students. This year, 39 select schools will take part in the government's Summer Food Service Program. The schools will serve free breakfasts and lunches Monday through Thursdays during the months of June, July and August. No certification is required and children up to the age of 18 are eligible.

The Broward elementary schools take part in the program are:

Bethune Elementary
Broadview Elementary
Cresthaven Elementary
Endeavor Primary Learning Center
Liberty Elementary
North Andrews Gardens Elementary
North Fork Elementary
North Side Elementary
Oakridge Elementary
Oriole Elementary
Park Lakes Elementary
Park Ridge Elementary
Pines Lakes Elementary
Pinewood Elementary
Riverland Elementary
Sheridan Park Elementary
Wilton Manors Elementary


Middle schools participating in the program include:

Pompano Beach Middle

In addition to the schools, many community sites are participating in this program. Parents can call (800) 622-5985 to find the site closest to their home and for times of operation.

The Summer Food Service Programs target areas where more than 50% of students are eligible for free and reduced price meals during the school year.
