Section Of Jungala Closed After Orangutan Escapes
Florida Fish & Wildlife Officials Plan To Look Into Incident
TAMPA (CBS4) ―
A section of Busch Gardens' newest exhibit Jungala has been temporarily closed after an orangutan escaped from her enclosure.
Employees at the Tampa theme park used food to lure the 10-year old Bornean orangutan safely back into her night quarters. The say she escaped from the Jungala exhibit Saturday night by climbing up the windows. Busch Gardens' vice president of zoological operations, Glenn Young, said the orangutans will remain off exhibit until problems with the enclosure are fixed.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigators plan to look into the incident on Sunday.
The Jungala area, which opened in April, is a four acre exhibit featuring a number of exotic animals including tigers, gibbons, flying foxes and of course, orangutans.
