Survey: Miami Among Most Wired Cities In America

MIAMI (CBS4.com) ― Put down that cafecito and pay attention; Miami residents may be less excitable and sleeping better at night, because a new survey finds they are using less caffeine then they did a year ago, but we're still one of the most buzzed cities in the nation when it comes to caffeine use.

A survey by HealthSaver shows Miami is the 7th most caffeinated city in America, down from it's #3 position in 2007. And, according to the survey, it's not because we're drinking less highly caffeinated Cafe Cubano.

The survey, which compares 20 major cities, found that Miami actually drank more coffee in 2008, second only to Seattle in the amount of coffee it sipped in 2008, up from 5th a year ago. The drop in caffeine usage comes from reduced consumption of another beverage, caffeinated tea. And Miami doesn't even make the top 10 list of places which drink a lot of caffeinated soda, like Coke or Mountain Dew.

Miami's ranking makes it one of the most wired cities in America, but not every city gets buzzed about charged up drinks. According to the survey, the least caffeinated city in the survey is in laid-back California, with San Bernadino ranked at the bottom of the list.

Nashville-based Healthsaver is a company that offers discounts on some health care services. This is the second year of it's caffeine survey.
