Celebrities Campaign For Obama In South Florida
Matt Damon and Alfre Woodard among celebrities volunteering for Obama campaign
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
College students in South Florida were treated to some star power, a week before Election Day.
Actor Matt Damon of the "Bourne Identity" series stopped by the University of Miami on Monday to speak to students about early voting. He's also scheduled to stop by the Hollywood Campaign for Change office and help lead the Miami March for Change event.
"I'm being paid a fortune," said Damon as he chuckled. "No, I volunteered to be here and if Obama wins Florida, he wins the White House, it's that simple."
In Miami Gardens, actress Alfre Woodard, who like Damon is campaigning for Senator Barack Obama, showed up to help encourage citizens to vote early. "To see the resolve of Floridians, this is great, and there is so much to vote for this time," Woodard said.
There are 27 March for Change events taking place across the state Monday, which are intended to bring together Floridians to vote early, in recognition of the unique impact that the state's 27 electoral votes could have in determining the next president.
Sunday night, Damon, along with actresses Kerry Washington and Alicia Silverstone, appeared at VoteFest '08, an all-day music festival on Miami Beach, funded by the Miami-Dade Democratic Party to promote early voting.
