Giuliani, Cindy McCain Campaign In South Florida

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― While Republican Vice Presidential nominee Governor Sarah Palin is hitting the campaign trail in Florida with daytime talk show hostess Elizabeth Hasselbeck, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani joined Cindy McCain in stumping across South Florida.

High above the city of West Palm Beach, dozens of Senator John McCain supporters cram a window-filled office, working the phones. For some, it's a marathon to turn out the vote. For others, it's a chance to re-establish friendships and forge new ones.

With Florida a key battleground state, Cindy McCain and Rudi Giuliani swept through West Palm Beach Sunday.

"The American people do not believe in redistributing wealth. We believe in hard work, making money and helping people do that," Giuliani said.

Cindy continued, stating, "Most importantly, we need someone who understands what it means to send young men into combat and bring them home."

"I hope when John McCain goes to Washington, Rudy will go with him," McCain supporter Norma Rochwarger said.

For now, Giuliani is busy planting campaign signs, dismissing polls that show McCain trailing and along with Cindy, keeping "Joe the Plumber" front and center.

"The whole 'Joe the Pumber' is a phenomenon. These guys want to have a good life for their family and not pay taxes," Cindy said.

That's a message Giuliani brought south as he attended a rally in Fort Lauderdale with a construction company. "By increasing our taxes, it lowers our ability to re-invest in the company and keep people employed," he said.

CBS4 Reporter Joan Murray sat down with Giuliani after the rally. He echoed McCain's attitude about the current polls. "How about talking about issues? Poll don't decide, otherwise we wouldn't have to have elections," he said.
