Gov. Crist Signs 2008 Budget
TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) ―
After vetoing more than $251 million in spending, Governor Charlie Crist has signed off on an austere $66 billion budget.
Crist quietly signed the budget Wednesday without the usual ceremony. It cuts spending for schools, health care and other services.
The budget for the new fiscal year which begins July 1st is about $4 billion less than what the state currently is spending.
In a written statement, Crist said the budget would still provide essential services at meaningful levels, protect the state's most vulnerable citizens and keep Floridians and visitors safe.
