Cheap Eats: Swedish Specialties & NY Style Pizza

MIAMI (CBS4) ― From the 4 Your Money Team, just in time for the weekend, another serving of "Cheap Eats", which features great meals that won't break the bank. In her latest installment, CBS4's Lisa Petrillo features Swedish specialties and delicious New York style pizza.

IKEA in Sunrise is known for its modern Scandinavian furniture and accessories at pleasing price points but did you know IKEA is pleasing to the palate as well?

The IKEA restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's a place where customers can take a break from shopping and fill up on some truly scrumptious Swedish specialties at well below average prices.

Manager Manfred Gahler took Lisa Petrillo through the line and pointed out the Swedish apple pie and delicious wrap sandwiches, all priced at $3.99. A platter of Swedish gravlox is $4.99.

But the most popular plate of all is the heaping mound of IKEA's famous traditionally prepared Swedish meatballs. It's only $4.99 and is served with lingonberries and mashed potatoes.

Downstairs in the Bistro and Swedish Food Market, there is take home food at well below market prices. Hot dogs are 50-cents and a bag of Swedish meatballs that feeds a family of four is only $11.99.

From Scandinavian treats to a New York pizza pie, Pizza Bar, opened just two months ago at 1627 Collins Avenue on South Beach. Owner Keith Menin promises his New York pizza is the best in town.

"We keep it simple. It's NY style pizza on South Beach. It's a 30-inch pizza, when pizza is normally 18 inches and it's a low check average," said Menin.

Pizza Bar is open until 4 a.m. and serves beer and wine only. This late night pizza joint definitely caters to the after-bar crowd.

Head pizza chef Vito Giovinco started making pizza pies in Coney Island 31 years ago. His ingredients are fresh, made by hand and is Italian all the way.
