An outing to the Golden Arches ended with a trip to the county pokey for a Clearwater granny.
75-year-old Jean Merola, a grandmother of eight, said after ordering her food, she pulled up to the area where drive thru customers are supposed to wait until it can be assembled.
Merola said she had ordered fries without salt and the drive thru clerk said it was going to be a couple of minutes until they were ready.
A short time later, Merola said a Clearwater police officer pulled up behind her and started honking his horn and waving his arms, apparently signaling for her to move her car.
When she didn't, Merola said the officer got out his cruiser and demanded her license and registration. Words were allegedly exchanged and after a brief altercation Merola was arrested for disorderly conduct.
The grandmother admits she used bad language, but only after the officer was insulting and abusive to her.
"He crossed the line, he was a smart aleck is what he was," said Marolla. "That's when I used those little curse words, because it upset me so that somebody would think I had dementia."
Merola, who was handcuffed and put in the cruiser, said once she arrived at the Pinellas County jail she was searched, photographed and fingerprinted. Jail records show she was released about 90 minutes later on her own recognizance.
Merola said she wants an internal investigation.
