Swim Coach Pleads Not Guilty To Child Porn Charges
Investigators Found Child Pornography On Computer
He Allegedly Admitted To Having Sex With Minors
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ―
A well known Plantation swim coach has pleaded not guilty in federal court to possession of child pornography.
Wednesday, a grand jury in Ft. Lauderdale handed up a four count indictment charging Roberto Caragol, 35, with 3 counts of possession and 1 count of transmission of child pornography.
Prosecutors say Caragol, who was caught after his email address was allegedly used to forward 4 images of child pornography, also allegedly admitted to having sex with minors dating back to 2001. Federal investigators said Caragol did not abuse any children he came in contact with through his most recent position as assistant swim coach at the Pine Crest School.
After his arrest Caragol was also fired from his position as Chairman of the Florida Gold Coast Swimming, the governing body for all local swim clubs. Caragol had been a coach at Pine Crest since 2006; he also coached boys swimming at Cypress Bay High in Weston.
If convicted of all counts, Caragol would face a maximum prison term of 50 years.
