Cut Your Commute: Alternative To I-95

MIAMI (CBS4) ― If you've lived in South Florida for any amount of time than you are probably aware of the frustrations I-95 can cause. You may not know, however, there is an alternate to I-95 that can save you some serious time.

U.S. 441 is the original north to south thoroughfare constructed before both I-95 and Florida's Turnpike. It runs from U.S. 41, also known as the Tamiami Trail, in Miami all the way north to Lake City, Tennessee and it's a great way to save you some time and stress on your commute.

One of the benefits of U.S. 441 is that it runs parallel with I-95 so you can consistently monitor the congestion on the busy freeway. If there is an accident on I-95, you can get off the highway and take U.S. 441 until the point you see the traffic snarl clear, hop back on I-95 and it's smooth sailing all the way to your destination.

Now we aren't going to sugar coat it, there are some obstacles to contend with. You will have to deal with stoplights, pedestrians, and railroad tracks. But navigating these minor complications can be easier than stop and go highway traffic and having to wait for long periods of time.

U.S. 441 also takes you through a commercial area, which makes stopping for food, dry cleaning, and almost anything very easy. U.S. 441 is also mentioned in Gainesville native Tom Petty's song "American Girl. So next time I-95 is congested, try the original road less traveled - U.S. 441.
