Construction Causing Headaches On Miami Beach
MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) ―
Most cities and communities in the current economy would gladly welcome the sounds of construction. It would mean money is being pumped into the community through new building, but for the people on Miami Beach constant construction has them seeing red.
However, the construction isn't hurting the tourism industry that drives the Miami and Miami Beach economy. Miami Beach currently enjoys the second highest occupancy rate for hotels in the country, behind only New York City.
Local businesses disagree, complaining they're the ones paying the price for progress.
"They don't want to come here," a waitress at Oceans 10 said. "They don't want to hear the noise and sit and hear the construction going on. The banging and the stuff."
So while tourism continues to flourish, the locals are looking forward to the day when progress turns back into paradise.
