Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested In Coral Gables

Police Found Him Hiding Under A Resident's Deck

CORAL GABLES (CBS4) ― An armed man who allegedly robbed a person in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Coral Gables is behind bars.

Police say Kenneth Maurice Smith, 20, ran off after robbing the person at gunpoint on the 1200 block of South Alhambra Circle on Sunday just before 8 p.m.

Officers confronted Smith at the University Metrorail Station, but he ran away again across U.S.1 and into a residential area. Police cordoned off the area around U.S. 1 causing major traffic tie ups.

He tried to break into a residence on the 1200 block of Mariposa Avenue in an attempt to hide from police, according to Sgt. Janette Frevola, of Coral Gables Police Department.

Police eventually tracked him down hiding under the deck of a house on the 1100 block of Madruga Avenue.
