Mother & Infant Pulled From Burning Apartment

Cause Of The Fire Remains Under Investigation

CORAL SPRINGS (CBS4) ― A Coral Springs mother and her infant are hospitalized after their apartment went up in flames.

When Coral Springs firefighters arrived at the apartment building in the 57-hundred block of Riverside Drive around 7:20 p.m. Monday they found a ground floor unit complete engulfed in flames. Several witnesses told 911 operators and police officers on the scene that there were possibly people still inside the home. Firefighters immediately entered the smoke and flamed filled apartment and found 33-year old Nicole Veras and her 2-month old son Logan. The also found Veras' three cats, all had died in the fire.

The Veras was rushed to North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach in critical condition; her son was taken to the Coral Springs Medical Center in serious condition. Both mother and son were later airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital to receive additional treatment.

Fire investigators say the cause of the fire, and where it started in the apartment, remain under investigation.
