Crane Collapse At Ft. Lauderdale Construction Site

No injuries have been reported in the wake of a crane collapse at a Ft. Lauderdale construction site.

The crane was being used to construct a multi-story building at 500 NE 4 Avenue when the collapsed occurred.

From above, Chopper4 spotted a large tangled and bent section of crane extending from the upper floors of the building to the ground.

"All personnel have been accounted for including crane operator," said Matt Little with Ft. Lauderdale Fire Rescue.

The issue now is that crane downed some power lines.

This is the second crane related accident in South Florida this month.

On April 3rd, two men were hurt when a small crane transferring an air conditioning collapsed on the roof top of the Turnberry Isles in Aventura.

One of the injured men is the owner of a roofing company; the other man is his employee. Investigators said the men were in the process of moving an air conditioning unit from a large crane to the smaller portable crane when the smaller crane collapsed.

One of the injured men, initially placed on a backboard and in a neck brace as a precaution, suffered a broken arm and leg. He also had some minor injuries to his back and neck. The other man suffered several cuts to his head.

Doctors had one man listed in serious condition and the other in stable.

This scene comes just one week after another incident with a crane in Downtown Miami left two people dead. The group Associated Builders and Contractors have backed a statewide proposal to bring more regulation to the use of cranes. It would require certification for owners and operators. Right now, just about anyone can legally operate a crane without any certification.
