11-Foot Croc Captured Near UM
This Croc Was One Of Three Hanging Out In The Area
SOUTH MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Some South Miami residents and University of Miami co-eds are breathing just a bit easier after a huge crocodile that has been hanging out in the canals on campus and behind homes was captured.
After getting complaints from area neighbors about the lurking reptile, Pesky Critters trapper Todd Hardwick pulled the 11-foot, 600 pound, crocodile from a canal near 58th Street and Southwest 64th Avenue.
"He's been around here for a couple years now, back and forth," said resident Russell Perry. "I've been tracking him for months now."
The crocodile has been feeding on a steady diet of ducks in the area.
Hardwick said it was one of three crocodiles that have been spotted often in the canals and ponds in the area. Because the reptile is an endangered species, it won't be destroyed. Instead, it will be released into the wild or be put in captivity.
