Search Resumes For Missing Cruise Ship Worker

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― The on again, off again, search for a missing cruise ship worker is back on again.

The Coast Guard said it has resumed its search for the 28-year old Chinese man off Cape Canaveral.

The cruise worker was reported missing from the Celebrity Constellation early Monday as it came into Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale. The ship's officers realized the man was missing when he didn't report for roll call.

Over the next 48 hours, Coast Guard air and sea crews searched about 1,500 square miles off Ft. Lauderdale and points north, but were unable to find the man. Early Wednesday morning they announced that they were suspending their search efforts.

But now Coast Guard spokesman Dana Warr says a ship surveillance camera now has revealed the man went overboard at about 3:25 a.m. Monday.

Drifts in the Gulf Stream current and the time that has passed have led searchers to the Cape Canaveral area. The man's identity has not been released.
