Cutting Corners: Designer Shopping On A Budget
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Sales, sales and more sales, shopping has never been better.
You know those Prada shoes you've always wanted, but couldn't afford? How about a new cell phone? Now, they're cheaper than ever.
With consumer spending down, stores are being forced to unload inventory.
Professional stylist Teddy Gunter of Atomic Style Agency in Miami tells
4 Your Money Reporter Gwen Belton that the good thing about the economy not being so great is the deals you can find.
She says stores would rather break even than take a loss.
From high end shops like Intermix at Bal Harbour, to discount retailers like TJ Maxx, you can find deals on everything from clothes, accessories, even electronics. Some of the biggest savings are being seen at off-price stores like the Off Saks Fifth Avenue Outlet store at Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise. Many items sell for as much as 70 percent off the original price.
Bargain hunter Ivia Friez told Belton she's shopping in stores that had been off limits. "I budgeted myself, but I got such fantastic prices that I had a little left over so I can still look around," said Friez.
Stylist Teddy Gunter says the low the prices will last well after the holiday shopping season.
Before you hit the stores to shore up your wardrobe, Gunter says make a list of what you need, head straight for the sales racks, ask sales associates about the best deals and wear comfortable shoes.
It's advice that Gunter says should make bargain shopping a breeze and light on the pocket.
