U.S. Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz will be on crutches for the next couple of weeks after fracturing her right leg and spraining her ankle during a charity softball game in Washington DC Tuesday night.
Wasserman Schultz was not only one of the organizers of the first annual Congressional Women's Softball Game, which pitted Representatives and Senators from both parties against staffers from the DNC and the RNC, she was also the captain of her team. Between 200 to 300 people turned for the game where politics were benched and 'ay batter, batter' was the call of the night.
The Weston Democrat hurt her leg sliding into second base in the 7th inning after being walked to first; she was 'safe' by the way. In the end, the staffers won 14 to 8.
The game raised more than $41 thousand for Young Survival Coalition (YSC) which educates and supports young women living with breast cancer.
Not letting a little thing like a fracture leg get in her way, Wasserman Schultz started her day Tuesday with her scheduled 8:30 a.m. meeting and followed by a series of five votes on the floor and a full day in the office.
