Ike's Stiff Winds Bring Onlookers To The Shore

Hurricane Ike's stiff winds cut off power to thousands in South Florida

DEERFIELD BEACH (CBS4) ― South Floridians in Deerfield Beach experienced blustery winds and periodic rain on the coastline on Tuesday as Ike passed far to the south.

As waves crashed against the pier, surfers challenged eight-foot waves.

Others not so venturous, heeded the red-flag warning about the dangerous and hazardous conditions in the ocean including rip currents.

Instead of swimming, people were awed by Mother Nature.

Patty Welsh, walking along the shoreline, told CBS4 Reporter Liv Davalos "the wind is fabulous" while Craig Korman of Boca Raton experienced it with his son, saying, "it's pretty incredible".
