Days after being shot while in a home, 3-year-old Salayah Buie returned to her grandmother's home on Monday.
Salayah was shot in the leg four days ago and now wears a pink body cast after doctors performed surgery on her over the weekend to remove bullet fragments. Now, instead of being surrounded by doctors and nurses, she is surrounded by family and balloons.
"We haven't had any sleep, but we are so thankful you see how tiny she is, if it had hit anywhere, it would be so different," said Salayah's grandmother, Mary Conner.
The shooting showed just how fast things can change to neighbors of little Salayah. "They were riding bicycles and I was blowing bubbles just a few hours before," said neighbor Joyce Fillmore.
Salayah's mom was just thankful this part of the story was over. "I'm very relieved," Salayah's mother said. "I'm glad she's home."
But, justice is the one thing missing according to Salayah's grandmother. "Please, you know who you are," Conner said. "She's gonna be in pain a long time, please come forward."
If you have any information about the shooting, police encourage you to call
Broward Crime Stoppers at (954)-493-TIPS.
