Dinosaurs Walk Free In Sunrise!

SUNRISE (CBS4) ― Dinosaurs are taking over the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise this week. It's an award-winning show called "Walking with the Dinosaurs Live." It's an exhibit worth waiting 65 million years for: a seven-foot-tall baby Tyrannosaurus Rex with a row of razor-sharp teeth!

On Tuesday, parents and kids had a prehistoric sneak peek at the true-to-life dinosaur. Mathew McCoy is the head of puppetry for the show. He tells CBS4's Jim Robinson, "Unless you know someone with a fully functioning time machine, this is as close as you'll ever get a seeing a 36-foot brachiosaurus leaning over and look at you and blink."

The live show is from Australia and based upon the award winning BBC television series. Now the show is traveling all over North America. The baby Tyrannosaurus Rex is one of 17 in the show.

Reed Hancock is in pre-school. While he loves the prehistoric giants, he wanted to see the life-like baby T-Rex from a distance. His dad Alan Reed tells Robinson, "We had to back up and not get to close, but he loves dinosaurs, just not that real and that close. It was a bit much."

Inside all that rubber and high-tech puppetry, is Chad Colton from Los Angeles. He's been with the show for eighteen months. "It's sort of like driving one of those big 'battle robots' you see in the Japanese cartoons," he laughs.

He brings the baby T-Rex to life and soliciting various emotions from his fans. "It's a combination of absolute joy, and terror, and excitement," he said.

Tickets are on sale now and the show goes from Wednesday, November 19th to Sunday, November 23rd. Click here to buy tickets!
