1,400 Jobs Lost In Florida
ORLANDO (AP) ―
The Walt Disney Company has announced it has eliminated 19-hundred jobs across its U.S. parks division. 14-hundred of those positions were dropped from Florida parts.
According to the company, the cuts began February 18, 2009. That was the day Disney first announced a plan to consolidate back-office functions between Disney World and Disneyland.
The cuts announced include 1,150 layoffs, 50 voluntary buyouts and 700 open positions that were not filled. In Florida, there were 900 layoffs and buyouts and 500 open positions eliminated.
The cuts were reported aimed at executive, management, professional and administrative positions.
The company employs about 62,000 people in Florida.
