The Miami Dolphins players, coaches and staff tackled the problem some families have on Thanksgiving, not having the turkey and other food for the big meal. For the 15th consecutive year, the Dolphins worked with Feeding South Florida to hand out turkeys on Tuesday to needy South Florida families.
The Dolphins saw over 900 meals provided and said that roughly 9,000 people will be impacted by the year's Thanksgiving meals distribution. For players, it's just another chance to give back to the community that gives so much to them.
"It means a lot to come out here," said Yeremiah Bell. "This is an event I have been doing each year since I was a Dolphin and it is probably my favorite event to do with the team. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays and just to be able to give back to people, let them have a great Thanksgiving meal and just to see all the smiling faces out here, it is a great feeling."
Players including Dolphins left tackle Jake Long and star wide receiver Davone Bess were among the players who helped out. Many players were quick to note just how tough the economy has become for the average family.
"It's rough for a lot of people, so I mean any way we can give back to the community and help out families to enjoy the holidays, it benefits people," Dolphins punter Brandon Fields said.
Players began distributing meals to participating agencies at 11:30 AM. The recipients were chosen in advance by the numerous charities that participated in the event.
