Miami Dolphins Take On Ravens In Playoff Game

Watch Sunday's First-Round AFC Wild-Card Playoff Game Contest On CBS4 At 1:00PM

DAVIE (CBS4) ― The Miami Dolphins (11-5) are credited for closing out the regular season with nine wins in their last ten games, becoming the AFC East champions.  Sunday they will do battle with the Baltimore Ravens (11-5) at Dolphin Stadium in the first round of the AFC playoffs.  A win by the Dolphins would mean a divisional round matchup at Pittsburgh.

In a team meeting last week in Davie, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano asked the veteran players on the squad to stand up, and then asked the ones with playoff experience to remain standing.

Of approximately 45 non-rookies in the room, including eight practice squad players, only 18 still stood.

The players are taking nothing for granted, especially after losing to quarterback Joe Flacco and the Ravens, 27-13, in October.

"Where they've grown the most is at the quarterback position," Sparano said of Flacco. "He has total command of the entire playbook. He can keep the play alive, kind of Tony Romo-like. I just see a completely different kid back there right now from the first time we played."

Flacco benefited from the tutelage of offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, who went 1-15 in his only season as Dolphins head coach last year.

The Ravens gave an emotional Cameron the game ball after their October victory in Miami.

Just a reminder, South Florida is also the site of the Ravens' last playoff victory. It came Jan. 13, 2002, when the defending Super Bowl champion Ravens beat the Dolphins, 20-3.

The Ravens arrive to Sunday's game with a rookie coach, John Harbaugh, and quarterback and the Dolphins are somewhat similar with their rookie coach and new quarterback, Chad Pennington.
