An NFL player may be charged after running over and killing a man walking along a Miami Beach Street.
Donte' Stallworth of the Cleveland Browns was questioned and eventually released after he accidentally hit the pedestrian on the eastbound MacArthur Causeway on Miami Beach, according to Det. Juan Sanchez of the City of Miami Beach Police Department.
According to the police, he was driving a black Bentley which took heavy front-end damage from the accident which occurred near the intersection of Fisher Island Drive and the MacArthur Causeway.
The Drive is where ferry access is provided to one of the most exclusive residences in America, Fisher Island.
The victim has been identified as 59-year-old Mario Reyes. Police reported it's believed he worked in the area and may have been heading toward a bus stop when struck.
Police said it's awaiting the results of a blood test to learn if Stallworth was drunk or had drugs in his system at the time of the accident; the results could take a week.
Donte' Stallworth, 28, is an eight-year pro NFL wide receiver. He's played with the New England Patriots, and had an agreed to terms of a seven-year, $35-million contract with the Browns, $10 million of which is guaranteed.
The Browns released a statement Saturday which read, "We understand the seriousness of the situation but will not have any further comment at this time, as this is an ongoing investigation."
