Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte' Stallworth was released from jail Friday morning, ending a 30- day sentence for killing a pedestrian while driving drunk almost a week early, according to Miami-Dade corrections officials. He still faces two years of house arrest and eight years of probation, and can never drive again.
Miami-Dade corrections spokesperson Janelle Hall confirmed that Stallworth left the jail about 5:55 a.m. Friday, after serving just 24 days of his 30 day sentence.
Stallworth made no comment to reporters waiting for him to leave.
Earlier this week, information was released about the morning Stallworth's vehicle struck and killed 59-year-old Mario Reyes on the MacArthur Causeway earlier in 2009.
Stallworth said he met fellow Cleveland Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards and other friends at a Miami Beach club the night before the accident. Stallworth told police he drank the tequila, went to his condo for a nap and then headed out for breakfast when the vehicle he was driving hit Reyes. Stallworth told police Edwards told him he seemed fine.
Stallworth's blood-alcohol was .126, well above Florida's legal limit of .08 when he hit Reyes.
