2 Young Women Shot Up In Drive-By Shooting

The Shooting Occured In Fountainebleau Area Of West Miami-Dade.

WEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) ― A drive-by shooting has landed two young women in the hospital after being targeted by someone who fired multiple shots at them while sitting in a car.

Miami-Dade police said the two women, ages 20 and 17, were in a black Mazda 626 when someone shot them in the Fountainebleau area of West Miami-Dade.

The shooting took place shortly before 2:00 a.m. Police say the women were in the car on 102nd Avenue and NW 9th Street Circle (Roadway) when someone drove up alongside them and opened fire. Area residents heard the shots and immediately called police who arrived within minutes.

"Once they arrived they found both victims, one 20-years of age – the other 17, with apparent gunshot wounds," said Mario Rachid with Miami Dade police.

Investigators say it was a targeted drive by; there were 6 bullet holes in the driver's side window and into the driver's side door. The driver, identified as 20-year old Oneida Cano, reportedly received five gunshot wounds, her passenger, 17-year old Marian Zorrilla, was struck in the face. Both women were airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Jocelyn Martinez said she was shocked something like this happened in her normally quiet neighborhood.

"I heard the noise, I'm surprised because I have lived here for 9 years and never in my life has something like that happened," said Martinez.

Martinez who walks her dog around the neighborhood every morning said seeing the car made her a little scared.

"It can happen to my daughter, it can happen to anybody," said Martinez, "oh my God, it's crazy, I don't go out."

Police say both women who were shot live in the area, but so far they have no clues or suspects in the shooting.
