Jim Leyritz is most remembered on the field for hitting a dramatic 3-run home run in Game 4 of the 1996 World Series against Atlanta. The now-44-year-old was arrested on Dec. 28 for driving under the influence and being part of a traffic accident.

A former World Series star charged with DUI manslaughter in the death of Plantation woman was driving on a suspended license.
Records from the New York Department of Motor Vehicles show that 44-year old Jim Leyritz ticketed outside Albany for using a cell phone while driving in June, 2007.
"He has a suspension on his record. It's current as of today," said Ken Brown, spokesman for the New York Department of Motor Vehicles.
In November, the state of Florida suspended Leyritz's license after he failed to answer a summons from New York.
Leyritz was charged with DUI manslaughter and DUI property damage after crashing his 2006 Ford Expedition into a vehicle driven by 30-year old Fredia Ann Veitch at SW 7th Avenue and 2nd Street by the Performing Arts Center.. Veitch, who was thrown from her Mitsubishi Montero on impact, died at Broward General Medical Center.
Leyritz's attorney, Jeffrey Ostrow, said he had "no knowledge of his license being suspended in the state of Florida or in New York or otherwise."
"If Leyritz was driving with a suspended license, he would face an additional charge in the Fort Lauderdale case," police Sgt. Frank
Sousa said.
Leyritz, who was released from jail on an $11-thousand bond, played for six major league teams, starred in the 1996 World Series and was last in the majors in 2000.
