Broward Officers Arrest Escaped Suspect

Suspect: 22-year-old Duran Smith of Lauderhill

TAMARAC (CBS4) ― Broward Sheriff's officers have arrested, for the second time, a prisoner who managed to escape from a holding cell Saturday night.

22-year-old Duran Smith was arrested Saturday night for battery on a police officer. The incident reportedly began when an officer pulled the Lauderhill resident over. During the traffic stop, Smith allegedly tried to roll up the window on the officer's arm, prompting the arrest.

Smith was taken to the district office holding cell in Tamarac, which an officer described as made of steel wire mesh. According to police, Smith was able to roll under the bottom of the cage and escape from the cell.

Smith was handcuffed when he escaped. Police are still trying to figure out exactly how he escaped, and where he is now.
