People are reeling in shock as details emerge on Thursday of a father's alleged sexual abuse of one of his daughters, which led to his killing her, a sibling, a wife, and then himself in their southwest Miami-Dade home. Two other children survived his shooting rampage.
Miami-Dade police detectives are looking into a report of sexual abuse after a classmate said one of the murdered girls confided that "Her
dad was sexually abusing her".
The classmate who came forward with the information has not been identified nor the dead girl whom she was referring to.
In an interview with
CBS4 Reporter Gary Nelson, she added, "She didn't want to let anyone know. This weekend she told me she cut herself and to ray for her, because she wanted to kill herself." The classmate added, "Over the last two days, she was emotionless in school. All she said was to pray for her."
Pablo Amador, 53, shot his 45-year old wife Maria and two of his daughters; 13-year old Rosa and 14-year old Priscila, according to a police report.
The couple's 16-year old son, Javier, escaped the shooting by fleeing into a nearby home where he called 911 operators. A fourth daughter, 20-year old Beula "Bea" was attending classes at the University of Miami in Coral Gables where she's a music student.
Friends and neighbors believed the family was a perfect one, but some disturbing words written on the social networking sites of older daughter Bea, who was not at home at the time of the killings, and Priscila, who died, suggest otherwise.
On Bea's "Facebook" page she wrote, 'Crying/hurting inside. Don't know how to deal. Not even gonna try attempting anymore."
On Priscilla's "My Space" page, there were haunting words, "I have gone through so much and yet I still try to stand tall, because this whole world is coming down on me, and blocking it hurts more and more."
The mother of the school confidant who came forward with the sex abuse allegations regrets not taking action.
"As an adult I feel very bad, I thought I could have done something, but I uh, told my daughter we gotta do something," said the woman, whose identity
CBS4 News is keeping secret.
Friends and classmates of Priscila and Rosa Amador were grieving together Thursday night. They lit candles, and laid out flowers, teddy bears, even a favorite snack in front of the home where the teenage girls were shot to death.
Michelle Muñoz was looking forward to the next school year when Priscila would join her in high school. That day will never come.
"She's always gonna be in our heart and we're never going to forget her," said Muñoz. "I didn't really get a chance to say 'bye' to her but I'm gonna pray for her every night and I'm gonna miss her a lot."
In response to the outpouring of sympathy from the community for the Amador family, the University of Miami established a fund to assist Beula and her brother, Javier.
