FCAT Frenzy Sweeps State 4th, 8th, & 10th Graders

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Pencils up, thinking caps on – thousands of students will be caught in a FCAT frenzy in classrooms across the state.

Florida fourth, eighth and tenth graders will take the writing portion of the Florida Comprehensive Achievement Test on Tuesday. A new rule this year is that no cell phones, text messaging devices or video equipment will be allowed in the classrooms where the tests will be given.

The 'writing plus' tests will be administered in two parts. The first portion will be a multiple choice section that covers sentence structure, punctuation, capitalization, word usage and spelling. The second portion is the essay portion designed to test a student's ability to organize their thoughts, draft an initial essay and the re-write it into a finished essay.

Tenth graders must pass the test if they wish to graduate in their high school senior year.
