Univision Agrees To Record Fine

MIAMI (CBS4) ―
The nation's largest Spanish-language broadcaster has agreed to a record 24 (m) million-dollar fine.
The Federal Communications Commission says Univision failed to meet government rules for educational children's programming.
The F-C-C says 24 Univision stations circumvented rules that require the airing of educational children's T-V at least three hours a week. Regulators say the stations instead ran soap operas.
Univision attorneys defended the educational value of the shows, which they said helped teach how "love and kindness can help overcome life's adversities." The F-C-C was not convinced.
The fine is part of a consent decree to pave the way for Univision to complete its more than 12 (b) billion-dollar sale to private investors.
