FIU School Of Medicine Gets $20 Million Donation

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Longtime Florida International University benefactor Herbert Wertheim has given FIU's new College of Medicine a large financial shot in the arm. Wertheim has donated a $20 million cash gift to the school. The gift is the largest cash donation in the universities history.

FIU indicated the gift is eligible for Florida's Major Gifts Challenge Grant Program, which matches certain donations.

Wertheim owns Brain Power, Inc., which manufactures optical instruments and chemicals. He's being recognized as the Founding Chairman of the College of Medicine at the school, as well as Trustee Emeritus of the University's Board of Trustees.

FIU's new College of Medicine will have its first class of 43 students in August.
