Gas Prices Push Students To Web Classes

BOCA RATON College students are stepping away from the steering wheel and turning to the keyboard for classes.

Soaring gas prices have pushed Florida students to sign up for more online college courses, rather than paying for the commute to class.

Florida Atlantic University has seen a 20-percent increase in enrollment in web-based courses in the past year. More than five thousand students signed up for at least one online class this year.

Other colleges and universities in the state are reporting similar explosions in online enrollment.

Students and school officials say other draws to online classes are the convenience and flexibility.
