Troubled Off-Season Continues For Gators Football

Freshman defensive lineman shot

TAMPA, Fla. (CBS4.com) ― University of Florida defensive lineman Matt Patchan continues recovering after being shot in the shoulder at Saide Park in Brandon, Florida. Patchan was heavily recruited out of high school when he chose the Gators. He enrolled in January after graduating high school in the fall.

Patchan's shooting is the latest incident in as many days for the 2006 National Champions.

Last Friday, the University dismissed Jamar Hornsby after it was revealed that he had used the credit card of a dead Florida student named Ashley Slonina. She was killed in a motorcycle crash in 2007. The driver of the motorcycle was Florida defensive back Michael Guillford, who also died in the crash.

Police say Hornsby used the card at least seventy times after Slonina died. He racked up $3,000 worth of fraudulent charges. Friday, Meyer was a man of few words when discussing Hornsby, saying, "He is not part of our program."
