46 Arrested At New Years Football Games

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco agents arrested 46 underage drinkers at new Years Weekend football games in South Florida.

ABT agents arrested 26 people for possession of alcoholic beverages by an underage person and one for a fugitive warrant at the Orange Bowl Classic on New Year's Day.

At the playoff game Saturday between the Miami Dolphins and the Baltimore Ravens at Dolphin Stadium, agents arrest 15 underage people for possession of alcoholic beverages. One person was arrested for selling an alcoholic beverage and another person was arrested for possession of narcotics, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.

New Years is one of the biggest weekends in both college and professional football. In the 2008-2009 football season, ABT agents created TURF (Tailgaters Urging Responsibly and Fun) to help combat underage drinking at games, said Secretary Charles W. Drago.

The mission of ABT is to keep alcohol and tobacco out of the hands of underage persons, to ensure that licensed establishments are in compliance with the laws and rules regulating the industry in Florida, and to collect taxes and fees related to these industries.
