Bandit Used Greasy Goo To Swipe Woman's Ring

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― An enterprising thief used a bit of deception and a dab of greasy goo to swipe an expensive ring off a woman's hand in broad daylight.

Helen Artim, 80, told police it all began when two men bumped her car with a truck on Bayview Drive at Oakland Park Boulevard on November 14th. The two men motioned her to follow them as they drove into a parking lot at 32nd Street. Once there, one of the men asked Artim to open her trunk so he could check for damage. She said he was wearing gloves with some kind of grease on them and at one point ran his hand over hers.

When he used a towel to wipe off her hand, Artim said he slipped the ring off her finger and then pushed her to the ground. He then got back in the truck and the two men drove off.

Artim told police the ring was valued between $20 thousand to $30 thousand.
