Miami-Dade police are on the look out for whoever broke into a Florida Power and Light substation near Miami Shores and left thousands in the dark.
FPL workers doing maintenance at the substation near NW 5th Avenue and 93rd Street just after noon on Monday noticed that noticed that protective equipment had been stolen. As a result, the substation was taken offline for about an hour until replacement equipment could be installed. More than 13-thousand people were without power while the repairs were being made.
Miami-Dade police said they believe whoever was responsible for the theft took the metal equipment and copper wiring to sell for scrap.
