Miramar Man Accused Of Cruelty In Duck Death

MIRAMAR (CBS4) ― A Miramar teen has been charged with animal cruelty after he allegedly stabbed a duck to death outside of a popular restaurant.

Miramar police said when an officer arrived at a complaint call at a Benihana restaurant on Miramar Parkway at Southwest 160th Avenue he was met by the manager who told him he saw a man had stabbed a duck several times with a knife.

The manager went on to tell the officer that knife, which was at least 8 inches long, was dripping with the duck's blood after the man stopped his brutal attack. When the restaurant manager asked him why he did it, the man reportedly replied that he hated ducks.

The Miramar officer spotted Gabriel Diaz, 18, walking across the restaurant's parking; the restaurant manager confirmed that he was the man who had attacked the duck.

No knife was found when Diaz was taken into custody. Police did find a trail of blood leading from the restaurant to a nearby pond where they spotted a dead duck floating in the water.
