Brothers Killed In Gas Station Shooting
SWEETWATER (CBS4) ―
Two brothers are dead and a third teen remains hospitalized with a bullet in his head after a shooting at a Sweetwater gas station.
The shooting took place around 12:20 a.m. at a Shell gas station on Southwest 8th Street and 107th Avenue, just across the street from Florida International University.
Family members of one of the victims told CBS4'S Sharrie Williams that 20-year old Dion Coppet had taken his younger brother, Danzel Coppet, 17, to the Miami-Dade County Fair, along with three other friends.
After they left the fair, family members say Coppet was hit by the driver of a Chevy Tahoe. Both pulled into the gas station where a fight broke out. Coppet's family claims the driver of the SUV pulled a gun and shot into his brand new Chevrolet Montecarlo.
Dion Coppet died on the scene and his younger brother died at the hospital.
Dion Coppet leaves behind a one year old son, who just celebrated his birthday last week.
Coppet's mother says she'll miss her son. "He was a good father, a good son. He always looked after me. He was a good child and I can't believe my son is gone. I hope whoever shot my son, pays for it," cried Melody Thomas on the scene after the shooting.
A third person, now identified as 17-year old Henry Richardson, was also severely injured after being shot in the face. He was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
"The bullet went through under his eye socket. Now it's lodged in the back of his brain," said Richardson's mother outside of the hospital. "This lady lost two kids and my baby is up there fighting for his life. It's not fair."
Police have several people in custody and are questioning them about the shooting.
No charges have been filed so far.
