A seven-foot alligator found itself trapped in a storm drain and in need of rescue Friday afternoon.
When crews from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived, they discovered the large reptile lying at the bottom of the drain just before 4 p.m. at 6430 Southwest 109 Ave. The animal appeared disoriented causing them to call in the Venom Response Team for help.
Lt. Lisa Wood and Capt. Charles "Chuck" Seifert created a plan to slip a looped rope around its neck to hoist it up. It took a mere ten minutes to pull the agitated alligator out of the drain uninjured.
The gator's mouth and legs were bound with duct tape and animal trapper was called in to remove the animal.
This is the team's second big catch. Last weekend, the Venom Response Team captured a 13-foot-long python weighing pounds at a nursery in the Redlands.
