FIU Offers Students, Faculty A Green Ride

On-Campus Ride Share Program Intended To Cut Costs, Congestion

SWEETWATER (CBS4) ― With gas over $4 a gallon, parking a problem, and everyone looking for a way to cope, Florida International University things it has the answer in a ride share program intended for students and faculty. The university believes the time has come for drivers to take a Green Ride.

Students and faculty have begun to sign up for the program designed by Bill Foster, who would be happy if 1 thousand of the university's 38 thousand students agreed to carpool. He's optimistic for that first year goal.

"It will help with convenience issues, and I just think it's going to be a huge, huge advantage for FIU," he said.

"It's kind of nerdy," said FIU senior Susana Neira, who has already been matched with two riders to share her commute. "But, you know, it's our future that we have to think about."

Students can sign up on campus our through the University's student website.
