Police Release Sketch Of Wheelchair Robber

Anyone With Information Call Broward Crimestoppers (954) 493-TIPS

POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) ― The Broward Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help finding a suspect who stole a wheelchair and cash from a disabled homeless man. Detectives released a composite sketch of the suspect on Tuesday.

Detectives say the man in the sketch attacked 64-year old Richard Denise last Tuesday night while he was sleeping behind the Bank of America at 900 W. Sample Road in Pompano Beach.

Denise says the suspect threatened his life and beat him with a wooden board when he failed to give him his money. Denise was dragged toward the drive up ATM, where he was found by a bank customer, bruised, beaten and bleeding from a gash above his eyebrow. Not only did the suspect beat Denise, but also stole his wheelchair, which he has been dependent on since he suffered severe injuries in Vietnam.

After published reports of the incident, a Good Samaritan, Ben Kuncman, owner of a medical supply company, came forward to donate a new, motorized wheelchair for Denise.

The suspect is described as a white male, between 45-50 years old, about 5'11"-6' tall, with medium length blonde hair that he slicks back, a tattoo possibly on the right arm, clean shaven and speaks with a New York accent. The suspect was last seen wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to contact BSO Robbery Detective Juan Hierrezuelo at 954-321-4270, or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS or www.browardcrimestoppers.org.

A reward of up to $1,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.
