One Body Found After Recreational Boating Accident

MIAMI (CBS4) ―

The body of David McMillian, 34, was recovered from the waters off South Florida on Saturday, and brought to Haulover Beach Park Marina after police said he went missing from an afternoon of pleasure boating.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, along with Miami-Dade police divers, brought the body to shore earlier this morning.

The search began off North Bay Village on Thursday after McMillian failed to remain on an inner tube that was trailing a friend's boat.

Police are still investigating the accident.

Recently, there's been an increased focus on boating safety by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. State boating officials say they have seen a dramatic drop in the number of boating deaths this year.

The latest information shows 32 people have been killed in boating accidents to date in Florida. That compares to 54 during the same period last year.

Florida has spent substantially more money over the past year, more than $350,000, on a boating safety campaign that targeted commercials for radio, TV and magazines.

2005 was Florida's worst year for boating deaths with 80 fatalities.
