Driver Killed In Head-On Collision On Krome Avenue

A man died Saturday morning after he crashed his Volkswagen Jetta head-on into a tractor trailer in Southwest Miami-Dade. The crashed sparked up a blazed which could be seen from miles away.

The collision happened on a stretch of Krome Avenue south of Okechoobee Road, said Miami-Dade fire rescue officials.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at 5:30 a.m. to find the trailer fully engulfed in flames, police said. Crews quickly worked  to put out the blaze and made a grisly discovery of finding the body of the Jetta's driver, a man in his 20s. Investigators said they believe he died as a result of the violent impact.

Police said the driver of the tractor trailer was unharmed but "emotionally shaken."

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
