Heat, Others Instruct Kids On Swim Safety

HIALEAH (CBS4) ― The Miami Heat continues its winning ways off the court with its Learn To Swim initiative.

The Heat, along with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and the American Red Cross, teamed up to surprise children at the City of Hialeah's Milander Pool.  Heat players James Jones, Mario Chalmers, Burnie the Mascot, and others joined kids at the pool who were taking swimming lessons.

Speakers on hand provided swimming safety instructions to children.

"Anytime there's a tragedy with a child involved in water it hurts your heart because you know it can be prevented and so things like this are imperative for us to come back here and show these kids to swim and how to be safe," said Jones.

The Heat are also offering $10 off a swimming lesson coupon to be redeemed at select authorized providers of Red Cross swimming lessons.
