The distraught mother of a girl killed by a hit and run driver in Sunrise Friday had some harsh words for the driver who remains on the loose.
Investigators said Veronica Ford, was hit after she exited a small community transport bus with her mother in front of her home in the 6000 block of Northwest 16th Place.
Mario Langley, an eyewitness, tended to the little girl saying, "And the car hit the girl really hard, and he took off and he didn't bother to stop."
The 4-year-old was rushed to Broward General Medical Center but didn't survive. All afternoon police searched for the driver, even towing a silver Dodge Magnum that fit the description of the suspect car.
Benita Desir, mother of the girl, said, "The only thing I can say is that I hope they find the guy and get him killed too, because that's my pain; it's not theirs."
Police said witnesses told them a silver Dodge Magnum hit the girl and immediately fled the scene. The girl was apparently knocked out of her mother's hand, as the car struck the child at very high rate speeds.
As police investigated the incident, 62nd Avenue was blocked off between 16th Court and 17th Street.
Police are looking for the driver who police said had dreadlocks pulled into a pony tail. Police said car should have
front end damage.
