Hollywood Hit And Run Caught On Tape

HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) ― A South Florida man came head to head with a car, and it was all caught on tape. Witnesses said the unknown car slammed into 49-year-old Marshall Chilton as he crossed Ocean Drive just before 11 p.m. on Friday night.

Surveillance video from a nearby restaurant showed the man being thrown several feet from where he started.

"It sounded like somebody was hit by a car, like a loud bang," said waitress Allentria Harvey. She was outside of Capones Fliker Lite Restaurant taking a break when the hit and run happened.

"I saw the guy laying on down on the ground and then there were cars coming, so I put my hand up to stop the cars from coming and then I looked down and he was hurt and I dialed 911 right away," Harvey said.

Chilton's friends say he went through multiple surgeries throughout the day on Saturday.

"He has two broken legs, a broken arm, and a collapsed lungh, and he a couple bruised..vertibrae in his neck. But when we went there today he opened his eyes for us," said Anita Atkins, a friend of Chilton's.

Doctors say Chilton will heal from the injuries, but his friends want justice for the driver of the car.

"I hope somebody catches who ever did it. There's a lot of people around here that know Marshall, he's a very nice guy. He'd give the shirt off his back to anybody, and for something like this to happen, it's just not right," said Craig Atkins.

Hollywood police are searching for a small, two door gray or silver car. If you know anything about this case, police ask you call Crimestoppers at: 954-493-8477. You can also leave anonymous tips on the Crimestoppers web site.
