Car Involved In Taped Hit & Run Possibly Found
HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) ―
Hollywood Police believe they may have the Mercedes Benz that struck and severely injured a man who was crossing A1A by Buchanan Street Friday night.
Police say they have located a Silver Mercedes at a shop in Lauderhill. It may have been involved in the accident that left 51-year old Marshall Chilton hospitalized and in critical condition. Chilton was struck by a car as he crossed the 1000 block of North Ocean Drive, near Buchanan Street, about 11:00 p.m. Friday night.
Police recovered physical evidence from the scene leading them to believe the car that hit Chilton was a silver Mercedes with left side front end damage.
A surveillance camera from a nearby restaurant captured the collision on tape and shows the car leaving the scene.
Ronald Neemar, owner of All Japanese Cars, where the car had been dropped off for work, reported the suspicious car to police.
"If you look at just before where the mirror is broken, you'll see that stain there," said Neemar. "That actually looks like human skin or tissue."
Neemar has been dealing with the car's owner for years, and is shocked that he would do such a thing. Police are not naming who he is, nor are they calling him a suspect yet, but they would like to talk to him regarding the case.
"It sounded like somebody was hit by a car, like a loud bang," said waitress Allentria Harvey. She was outside of Capones Fliker Lite Restaurant taking a break when the hit and run happened.
"I saw the guy laying on down on the ground and then there were cars coming, so I put my hand up to stop the cars from coming and then I looked down and he was hurt and I dialed 911 right away," Harvey said.
Chilton suffered broken bones and other injuries and is being treated at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.
