Teens In Homeless Beating Trial Want Venue Change

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― Attorneys for two Fort Lauderdale teens accused of beating homeless men in Broward County are requesting a change of venue.

This comes a week after several jury panels were dismissed because of concerns that people had already formed opinions on the highly publicized case. Judge Cynthia Imperato said Tuesday she could rule on the request later this week.

Twenty-one-year-old Brian Hooks and 19-year-old Thomas Daugherty are charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder in the 2006 attacks of three men in Fort Lauderdale.

One man, 45-year old Norris Gaynor, died of his injuries after he was beaten with a baseball bat. The other two suffered broken bones and lacerations. One attack was caught on surveillance video outside Florida Atlantic University.

Hooks and Daugherty face life in prison if convicted.
